who, which und that

• who → Personen: the woman who called. which → Sachen und Tiere: the car which broke down.
• that kann beide ersetzen – aber nur im defining relative clause: the woman that called, the car that broke down. Im Alltagsenglisch ist that dort sogar die häufigere Wahl.
• whom ist die Objektform von who und heute selten – förmlich und vor allem nach Präposition: the man to whom I spoke. Im Alltag: the man I spoke to.
• Nach Superlativen und nach „all, everything, nothing, only“ steht meist that: the best film that I've seen, everything that matters.
• ⛔ Kein doppeltes Subjekt. Das Relativpronomen IST das Subjekt: The man who lives here – nicht The man who he lives here. Dieser Fehler kommt aus dem Deutschen und ist der zweithäufigste.

1. Setze ein: The book … I read was great.
   Lösung

   which/that (oder ganz weglassen).
2. Setze ein: The teacher … teaches us maths is new.
   Lösung

   who/that.
3. Was ist falsch: „The girl who she sings is my friend.“?
   Lösung

   „she“ ist zu viel – „who“ ist schon das Subjekt.
